It has been a great weekend of Platinum celebration racing & lunching at the club. The club had decorated the clubroom with bunting & Robert Wheeler kindly brought along a Union Flag with the Queens Head on which we proudly displayed on the club flagpole for the weekend.
The celebrations kicked off on Friday with a handicap Pursuit Race. The morning was wet & dreary however, the rain finally stopped and with a light easterly wind racing commenced. A mixed fleet of boats containing DF95, DF65, Laser, 6m & a Mustang participated in the racing. 8 races with several different winners & places changing within the racing. The overall winner was Bob Jolly racing his DF 65, who was presented with a small bottle of fizz!
Saturday was the turn of the DF squadron. In the morning 7 DF65’s took part whilst the afternoon saw 10 DF95’s turn out. There was a brisk easterly wind with the 65’s in B rig & the 95’s in A & some in B. there were some “zippy gusts” making the runs exciting. Each fleet did 10 races so that those who had sailed both boats had walked about 8 miles by the end! There was a small bottle for both winners and another for the combined overall best score from both fleets, won by John Blackburn. Results of both fleets are on the website.
Sunday was a race for Lasers, with a Celebration Lunch (Jacobs table style). 11 boats were racing in an Easterly wind of about 8 knots. Trevor Bell the race officer pushed us hard and by 1pm 10 races had been completed using almost all the length of the lake. Our Celebration Lunch, with the Commodore attending, was held with plenty of food for everyone. After lunch a further 4 races were completed before retiring for the day & presenting the winner Shaun Holbeche with a small bottle for his win..
So a successful weekend was held as part of our Clubs contribution to Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee Celebration.
