As skippers prepared the entry of seven yachts, prior to the start of the event, there was not a single ripple on the lake. By 10-30 hrs start time there was a very slight breath of wind from the South East, so it was decided to sail out from the Clubhouse for 2 points and return for 3.
In heat one, as the last pair was halfway down the lake, the wind direction began to veer to south west, still very light. At the start of heat 2, the wind was blowing from the west and strengthening slightly, so the scoring was changed to 3 out and 2 back.
After heat 2 the wind had strengthened to the limit of top suit and was blowing straight down the lake, giving perfect sailing conditions. One more heat was sailed before lunch. After lunch some skippers changed to second suit sails as the wind strength had increased further and there was a heavy shower for a few minutes. One full round was sailed, finishing around 18-00 hrs.
Thanks are due to Bob Jolly for manning the mates bank, aided by the bye boat skippers and other skippers helping in between sailing their own boats.
