MYA Vane “M” National Championship 19th & 20th October 2024 Final Results

Strong winds from the S East / S West and heavy rain greeted the competitors on Day 2, the final day of the above Championship. With the unwelcomed change in conditions the competitors were asked if they were willing to continue to race and 2 decided  to retire, as they did not have sails small enough for the conditions.

Racing continued and the last 6 heats were completed by the remaining competitors.

Beesley Cup Vane 36R Sat 28th September 2024

As skippers prepared the entry of seven yachts, prior to the start of the event, there was not a single ripple on the lake. By 10-30 hrs  start time there was a very slight breath of wind from the South East, so it was decided to sail out from the Clubhouse for 2 points and return for 3.

In heat one, as the last pair was halfway down the lake, the wind direction began to veer to south west, still very light. At the start of heat 2, the wind was blowing from the west and strengthening slightly, so the scoring was changed to 3 out and 2 back.

After heat 2 the wind had strengthened to the limit of top suit and was blowing straight down the lake, giving perfect sailing conditions. One more heat was sailed before lunch.  After lunch some skippers changed to second suit sails as the wind strength had increased further and there was a heavy shower for a few minutes. One full round was sailed, finishing around 18-00 hrs.

Thanks are due to Bob Jolly for manning the mates bank, aided by the bye boat skippers and other skippers helping in between sailing their own boats.

Bill The Milk Trophy”, Classic & Vintage Vane “M” Class, Saturday 21st September 2024, onto the Club’s Web Site.

The wind was from the N East, a strong top or possibly 2nd suit, giving a run out from the Clubhouse with a 3 or 4 leg beat return, so ideal conditions. One full round was sailed.

Some fast downwind runs were made, despite no spinnakers were used.

Thanks due to Bob Jolly, Keith Wiseman and Peter Guest for looking after the mates’ bank.

Lever Cup 36R

There were 5 entries. The easterly wind was fairly  light initially so all yachts started in top suit. After the second heat the wind had strengthened so some skippers changed down to second suit. One full round was sailed. Not all skippers had mates so everyone helped one another. John Sharman was the winner as he had managed a full 100% score card.
